Vaporizers: #14 Alex Lowe - Automatic/Minimum 5 Game Suspension for Hockey Canada Rule 6.1 Attempt to Injure/Deliberate Injury Match Penalty Offence The GoPro high definition video of this incident from the Hockey Canada Certified Referee was video reviewed with our professional video software frame-by-frame, video sharpened, vocals raised, dB gained, and zoomed in 400%. 5 PIM Match Penalty -Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe and Absolute Bulldogs #8 Cam Smith are battling for the puck against the boards behind the Absolute Bulldogs goal line -The puck comes loose and is knocked along the bottom of the boards towards the corner -Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe then moves towards the loose puck -However Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith with both arms pushes and then holds Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe along the boards keeping him from getting to the loose puck -The reflection in the glass shows the closer Hockey Canada Certified Referee putting up his right arm to call a 2 PIM Cross-Checking Penalty on Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith as per Hockey Canada Rule 8.2 Cross-Checking Section (a) "A Minor penalty or, at the discretion of the Referee, a Major penalty and a Game Misconduct penalty shall be assessed any player who cross-checks an opponent." -Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith continues with both arms holding Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe against the boards away from the loose puck -Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe continues moving his legs and skates trying to get loose and move towards the loose puck -As Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe continues moving his legs and skates towards the loose puck he begins to lose his footing and is bending down forward as Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith continues holding him against the boards -Then Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe falls forward down on his right side down onto the ice as Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith pushes him down onto the ice -The closer Hockey Canada Certified Referee then assesses a 2 PIM Roughing Penalty to the Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith as per Hockey Canada Rule 6.7 Roughing Section (K) "A Minor penalty or, at the discretion of the Referee, a Major penalty and a Game Misconduct penalty shall be assessed to any player who is guilty of unnecessary rough play." -The closer Hockey Canada Certified Referee then very loudly instructs Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith, who is still on top of Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe, "88 let it go." -The closer Hockey Canada Certified Referee arrives as Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith is starting to get up off of Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe and the Hockey Canada Certified Referee helps to pull him up -However Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe then says "You f*cking." and then with his right arm he puts it over the left shoulder and grabs the back of the neck and head of Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith and pulls him down onto the ice -Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe then with his left arm he puts it over the right shoulder and grabs the back of the neck and head of Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith -Both of Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe's arms and hands, which are overlapping for a stronger hold, are now on the back of the neck and head of Absolute Bulldogs #88 Tyler Smith as he then rips his helmet off -The closer Hockey Canada Certified Referee assesses the Vaporizers #14 Alex Lowe the Automatic 5 PIM Match Penalty as per Hockey Canada Rule 6.1 Attempt to Injure/Deliberate Injury Section (D) "A player who pulls an opponent's hair or who grabs the facial protector, helmet, or chin strap of an opponent and uses this to gain an advantage or to inflict punishment or injury shall be assessed a Match penalty. A player who grabs an opponent's hair, facial protector, helmet or chin strap, but does not use it to gain an advantage or to inflict punishment or injury shall be assessed a Minor penalty or at the discretion of the referee a Major and a Game Misconduct penalty." Hockey Canada Rule 6.1 Attempt to Injure/Deliberate Injury (a) A Match penalty shall be assessed any player or team official who deliberately attempts to or deliberately injures an opponent, official, team official or spectator in any manner. (b) A Match penalty shall be assessed any player or team official who head-butts or attempts to head-butt an opponent with force or who injures an opponent with this action. A double Minor penalty shall be assessed any player who head-butts or attempts to head-butt an opponent but no injury results. A double Minor penalty and a Gross Misconduct shall be assessed any team official who head-butts or attempts to head-butt an opponent but no injury results. (c) A Match penalty shall be assessed to any player or team official that attempts to kick or deliberately kicks an opponent. (d) A player who pulls an opponent's hair or who grabs the facial protector, helmet, or chin strap of an opponent and uses this to gain an advantage or to inflict punishment or injury shall be assessed a Match penalty. A player who grabs an opponent's hair, facial protector, helmet or chin strap, but does not use it to gain an advantage or to inflict punishment or injury shall be assessed a Minor penalty or at the discretion of the referee a Major and a Game Misconduct penalty. (e) A Match penalty shall be assessed any player who uses his facial protector as a weapon. (f) A Match penalty shall be assessed any player who deliberately attempts to or deliberately injures an opponent with a slash, high stick, cross-check, butt-end or spear. 4d. (as of Sep 20, 2009) Any player may be assessed a match penalty at the sole discretion of the officials. Any player who is assessed a match penalty will receive a suspension at the sole discretion of the officials. A first match penalty offence will result in a minimum five game suspension. A second match penalty offence within the same season will result in a minimum season suspension. A longer, season, multi-season, or permanent suspension may result for any match penalty offence at the sole discretion of the officials. No refunds will be issued.
